Curriculum

An Overview of our Curriculum and Aims

Our inclusive curriculum at Liberty in the Wild Alternative Education Centre is designed to ensure that every child benefits from a diverse range of subjects and experiences, with a focus on addressing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We strive to deliver an accessible and engaging educational experience that fosters academic success, cultivates lifelong skills, and provides enriching experiences for our students.

Our curriculum planning emphasises the importance of Art, Drama, Science and Sports, alongside the development of core subject knowledge and skills to facilitate students’ academic progress and enhance subject fluency. We believe that our experience-rich curriculum equips students to transition smoothly to the next stage of their education, recognising the enduring benefits of continued learning and training on health, happiness, and social mobility.

We meticulously plan the progressive delivery of a wide range of subjects to ensure learning and achievement, particularly for students who may not be working at age-related expectations. At Liberty in the Wild, we nurture these students with an Arts and Drama-led curriculum, fostering social development while enhancing their academic abilities and enabling success.

We understand that to thrive as an inclusive educational support provider, it needs to be built upon a foundation of a happy and healthy community. We are committed to working collaboratively to address the root causes of underachievement and disadvantage, ensuring that our pursuit of improvement and the curriculum we offer are deeply rooted in our community. Our goal is to be an inclusive alternative education centre that cares for all children, raises standards, and transforms lives.

Curriculum Aims

Our high-quality educational experience is underpinned by an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum that empowers all children and young people to excel, with a focus on The Arts and STEM subjects whilst supporting them with SEMH. Through our curriculum, we aim to narrow achievement gaps across all student groups, facilitate access, and prepare our students effectively for their future endeavors.

Our curriculum aims to support students’ flourishing learning by:

1. Cultivating an inclusive culture of responsibility, respect, and safety, underpinned by praise, pride, and purpose.

2. Delivering excellent teaching across a comprehensive range of subjects to engage our learners effectively.

3. Promoting mental wellbeing, fostering positive relationships, and embracing acceptance.

4. Encouraging healthy lifestyle choices, developing self-regulation, and promoting personal accountability.

5. Celebrating diversity and embracing differences, while valuing tolerance, democracy, liberty, and law.

6. Addressing global issues and empowering students to take meaningful action.

7. Supporting students’ aspirations and interests to unlock future educational enjoyment.

Secondary Curriculum Intent

Liberty in the Wild believes that sustainability is an essential and integral part of 21st-century education. We strive to act in an ethical, transparent, and responsible manner, providing a local and trust-wide experience that highlights sustainability. In turn this will engage our students to be consistent and respond to our shared future practices effectively.

Covid-19 Recovery Adaptation

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented disruption and change in our children’s education. At Liberty in the Wild as an Alternative Education Centre, we are committed to implementing Covid-secure practices to support the national approach to managing education during the pandemic. We continuously review our practices and curriculum provision to ensure that our students receive a quality education despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. We have made short- and long-term adjustments to our curriculum architecture, subject delivery, and interventions to ensure equitable access and meet our students’ evolving needs. We provide resources for remote learning, guided pathways information, transition support, and catch-up provisions as necessary to support our students’ learning journey.
